# LyStream

> LyStream is a streaming website for films. Anyone can browse the library without an account. Viewers sign in (or press "Try as viewer"), watch free films, rent paid films for 48 hours, switch subtitles between Kreyòl Ayisyen (ht), Français (fr), Español (es), English (en), search for the moment something is said, jump between AI chapters, and ask questions about a film. Admins upload films, set a title, credit line and price, and create subtitles in all four languages in the browser. This page explains how it works, in plain text, for people and AI assistants.

## 1. Core concepts

- **Library**: the home page, open to everyone (no sign-in needed to browse). Every finished film is shown as a card with a thumbnail, its length, its title, and "Free" or "Rent $X.XX". A "CC" mark means subtitles are ready.
- **Free film**: plays straight away for anyone who is signed in, including the shared "Try as viewer" account.
- **Try as viewer**: a button on the sign-in page, on https://lystream.lycore.com/how-to, on the library and on every watch page. It signs you into a shared guest viewer account with no password and no admin rights. It can watch free films, rent paid films with sandbox cards and save sandbox cards. Its rentals and saved cards are cleared every night.
- **Paid film (rental)**: shows a lock and a price. It is locked until the viewer rents it. A rental lasts 48 hours from purchase and can be watched as often as the viewer likes in that time.
- **Subtitles**: every film can have subtitles in exactly four languages: Kreyòl Ayisyen (ht), Français (fr), Español (es), English (en). Viewers choose a language with the CC button in the player. Subtitles are generated automatically (speech recognition and machine translation) and reviewed by an admin, so a few lines may read imperfectly.
- **Credit line**: the licence or attribution shown under a film, e.g. "© Blender Foundation | mango.blender.org | CC BY 3.0".
- **Thumbnail**: either a custom image chosen by an admin, or a frame taken from the film.
- **Up next**: other films listed beside the player. When a film ends, the next one starts after a short countdown, which can be cancelled.
- **Payments**: handled by Stripe in sandbox mode. No real money is charged. Sandbox card 4242 4242 4242 4242 with any future date and any CVC succeeds.

Named accounts are created by the site owner, and there is no form to sign up. To look around without an account, press "Try as viewer". A login lasts 7 days on a device.

## 3. Watching

1. Sign in at https://lystream.lycore.com/login with your username and password, or press "Try as viewer".
2. Pick a film in the library. Hovering over a free film plays a short preview.
3. The film starts playing. Use the player for pause, volume, full screen and the CC (subtitles) menu.
4. Choose Kreyòl Ayisyen, Français, Español or English. The language can be changed at any time.

## 4. Renting

1. Open a film with a lock. Instead of the player you see "Rent for $X.XX".
2. Press Rent. A secure Stripe checkout page opens (sandbox: no real charge).
3. Pay with a saved card or a new one. Sandbox cards: 4242 4242 4242 4242 succeeds, 4000 0025 0000 3155 asks for 3D Secure, 4000 0000 0000 9995 is declined.
4. You return to the film and it plays. The card in the library shows an unlocked badge with the time left (e.g. "47 hr left").
5. Renting a film you already have will not charge you twice.

## 5. Account

- **Saved cards**: add a card (it is saved on Stripe and offered at checkout), change it, or remove it.
- **Rentals**: every rental with its price and date; active ones show the time left, older ones show "Expired".

## 6. AI features (built from the subtitle transcripts)

All AI runs on the server; no AI keys are ever sent to the browser. Every AI call is logged (user, feature, model, tokens).

- **Search inside videos**: the library search box matches titles, descriptions and tags, and (when signed in) the words spoken in every film, in all four subtitle languages. Each match shows the exact moment, e.g. "at 4:12", with the line that was said. Clicking it opens the film playing from that moment. Limit: 50 searches per user per day.
- **AI chapters**: when an admin saves subtitles, AI splits the film into 4 to 10 chapters (a timestamp and a short title each). They are listed under the player and shown on its timeline; clicking a chapter jumps to it.
- **Ask this video**: a question box on the watch page. Answers come only from that film's transcript and cite the moments they rely on as clickable timestamps. If the film doesn't cover the question, the answer says so instead of guessing. Paid films can be asked about once rented. Limit: 30 questions per user per day (on the shared guest account, per visitor). Limits reset at midnight UTC.
- **Description and tags**: written by AI from the transcript when subtitles are saved, shown on the watch page. Clicking a tag searches the library for it. Admins can edit both in "Edit details".

## 7. For admins

- **Upload** (https://lystream.lycore.com/upload): title (required), Free or Paid with a rental price, optional credit line, optional thumbnail, spoken language (required). The file goes straight to Mux, which encodes it for streaming.
- **Subtitles**: while the film uploads, the browser transcribes the speech (Whisper) in the spoken language and translates it (NLLB) into the other three. The admin reviews every line in a tab per language, fixes mistakes, then presses "Save subtitles". Each language shows queued, transcribing or translating, ready for review, attached, or error.
- **AI details**: saving subtitles also creates the AI chapters, description and tags. For older films use "Generate AI chapters & description" (or "Regenerate AI chapters") in the ⋮ menu. Hand-edited descriptions and tags are kept when chapters are regenerated.
- **Manage**: the ⋮ menu on each film card: Watch, Edit details (title, credit line, price, description, tags), Add/Change/Remove thumbnail, Generate AI chapters, Delete (removes the film with its subtitles, thumbnail and AI details; cannot be undone).
- **AI usage**: https://lystream.lycore.com/ai-usage lists every AI call of the last week with user, feature, model and tokens.
